Very Large Art Platter by Schwieger
Decorated primarily with green and brown glazes in a sort of impressionistic landscape design and signed across the back with a sharp tool in wet clay, “B. Schwieger / Ohio” The platter is 35-1/4″ inches in diameter and stands 4 inches out from the wall. It weighs around 65 pounds and would command any room or outdoor setting.
Brad Schwieger teaches at Ohio University and is presently Professor of Art and Chairman of Ceramics. Prior to that he was an Associate Professor at Vincennes University in Indiana (1985-1990). He received his Master of Fine Arts degree from Utah State University in 1983 and his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Iowa in 1981.
Prof. Schwieger’s work has been featured in exhibitions throughout the U.S.A., Japan, Korea, Taiwan, England, Germany, Czech Republic, Lithuania and Spain.
Examples of his work are featured in many permanent museum collections including that of the Renwick Gallery, Washington. DC and the Mint Museum of Craft and Design in Charlotte, NC.
His work has been published in Ceramics Monthly, American Craft, Clay Times, Ceramics Art and Perception as well as several textbooks.
